With sudden suspension of commercial LPG supply from Manimajra Gas Agency at Manimajra and many other stations in Andhra Pradesh, at least 800 customers are affected. The gas distribution company that runs the station has sent an SMS to all its stations to inform them of the suspension of supplies. It is believed that this is done as a preventive measure in the run up to elections in Andhra Pradesh which will see the ruling party securing its first ever mandate in the state. The reservoirs which store the LPG have a limited capacity and if they get stocked beyond a certain level, then the consequences could be disastrous for the owners. The gas supply from Manimajra is not the only gas distribution company in Andhra Pradesh however. At about 500 stations across the state, equally 80% of the gas consumed in Andhra Pradesh is generated by big companies that export gas through pipelines to different places in India and abroad. Among these companies, the largest is Reliance, which is a joint venture between Reliance Communications and Essar Corporation.  Other than Manimajra and Manali, the other two stations that receive LPG from Manali Jaisalmer are Guntur and Tirupati.  Both these stations have terminals at Manali that export the gas through pipelines to Manali and beyond. But the biggest gas distribution company in Andhra Pradesh, which distributes gas to almost all the destinations in the state apart from Manimajra and Manali, is the C.G. Petroleum Corporation (C.G. ).C.G. Petroleum is a joint venture company of four Indian oil corporations - Essar, Shell, CPFC and Enron. This company is responsible for providing domestic lpg gas to the domestic market of India. With this new connection, the domestic gas distribution companies in India have received a new lease of hope in terms of receiving more customers. In the near future, it is expected that this number will cross 500 distributors.
